The churches of the International Presbytery

  • Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Founded in 1607 to serve the English speaking population of Amsterdam, we continue to welcome worshippers from many countries, denominations and backgrounds. We provide fellowship for local people, short and long term Netherlands residents, as well as those visiting the country. The church is also used for regular worship by two Dutch-language Protestant groups. Mission is always part of the life of the Church, and we encourage our members to see that their life and work is part of their share in mission, in this country and abroad. We currently support the Mulanje Mission Hospital in Malawi where two of our members served as doctors.

Christ Church Warwick, founded in 1719 – possibly the oldest Presbyterian Church in the New World – is a lively, diverse and culturally rich congregation with members and visitors from all over the world. Christ Church strives to be not only a church in the community, but a church for the community.

We strive to live the gospel message in our outreach to individuals in need. The church provides hot nutritious lunches on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday to the homeless and those struggling with food security. Saturdays we offer shower and laundry services for the homeless along with a hot nutritious breakfast. We have strong links with a district in Malawi where, in the past, volunteers have worked with Habitat for Humanity to build homes. We also fund over 90 Malawian children to enable them to complete their secondary school education. .

Christ Church welcomes and hopes to be a blessing to all who walk through our doors. We welcome anyone to participate in our outreach programmes, whether they attend our services or not.

  • Bochum, Germany

Ecumenical in membership and outlook, our congregation, only founded in 1996, has already been a church home to people from all five continents and from widely diverse faith backgrounds. Special links are maintained via our two part-time pastors to their respective home churches, the United Church of Christ (USA) and the Church of Scotland. Bochum is affiliated to the International Presbytery - it is not a full member.

We have adopted a partner project in Nagaland, one of the few majority Christian areas in India. Organised and run by the Zeme-speaking Baptist church of the region, it aims to provide grants to students from poorer backgrounds in order to study theology in the renowned Eastern Theological College, Assam, then serve in parishes "far from the beaten track".

Those gathering for worship on Sundays will include refugees and diplomats, international students and tourists, people who’ve have retired here and others who have grown up in Hungary. • Geneva, Switzerland

The Church of Scotland in Geneva has links back to the days of John Knox and John Calvin – indeed we meet in the very building where Calvin lectured, and John Knox ministered. In the 21st century, the congregation is made up of many different nationalities, and offers a place of shelter and inspiration to all who seek Christ. We worship in the Auditoire de Calvin, situated next to the Cathedral in the Geneva old town.

We have two mission projects, one with an HIV/AIDS Youth Resource Centre at Ekwendi hospital. This independent centre, which we constructed in 1999, provides HIV/AIDS testing and advice, social contact, lifestyle counselling, sports, a band and indoor games facilities, along with outreach to many villages in the surrounding area through a large number of youth clubs and other community activities.
The second, in Nepal, we support the Lalgadh Mission Hospital. One of our Elders Graeme Clugston, a medical doctor retired from WHO in Geneva, is the Medical Director of the hospital. Together with Meena, his Nepalese wife, who is Nursing Standards Officer, they have built up the work of the hospital. Now it is known as the major centre in the area not only for leprosy treatment but also for compassionate care, outreach to isolated villages and Christian love.

Many people living near Lausanne for work or study find a sense of family and community with us. Sunday worship lies at the heart of life at the Scots Kirk. Although our traditions are Reformed and Presbyterian, our members come from a wide range of denominational traditions. All ages are welcome.

  • Lisbon, Portugal

St. Andrews is a small but active congregation and regularly welcomes English speaking travelers who may only be in Lisbon for a short time. We have around 60 members, with about 12 nationalities. The church holds a well-attended Bible study each Sunday before our service and enjoys a fellowship time following the Sunday service. Christian worship in all its variety is important to us all and some travel a long way to get to church.

Our church is committed to ecumenical co-operation with various church organizations. Each Sunday afternoon the church is used by the Portuguese Mission of the Orthodox Romanian church to serve the community of immigrant labourers.

The church’s outreach activities facilitate community building. We accomplish this by opening our downstairs hall for use each week by AA and a Narcotics Anonymous Group. We further reach out to the community by supporting the Baptist Portuguese church who holds its large gatherings and holiday camps at St. Andrews. The hall is also used as a neighbourhood community centre for childrens´activities.

We invite you to join our fellowship. You will be warmly welcome whether you are in Lisbon for a few days or a few years.

  • Valletta, Malta

St Andrew's Scots Church is truly cosmopolitan with a wide variety of nationalities and church backgrounds, from four continents. Malta is an international crossroads – particularly following its accession to the EU – and our ministry and mission reflects this. It’s also a year-round tourist destination. The Andreas Gemeinde of the German Lutheran Church worships in our building, and we have two main mission projects:

Madagascar: We support an orphanage which aims to provide long-term housing, care and education for children who have been orphaned, abandoned, neglected or abused, catering for up to 50 children living at the home and also involving children from the community

Dar Tereza Spinelli: a halfway house in Valletta for homeless women, and those who are the victims of domestic violence.

  • Paris, France

The Scots Kirk, with origins going back to 1858, and a tradition of worship which has included royalty, presidents, prime ministers and Olympic champion Eric Liddell, also has strong mission traditions. When the 1940 German occupation forced the church to close, Rev Donald Caskie moved his ministry to Marseilles, where his mission included his work for the French Resistance.

Re-established in the heart of the city, this congregation still reaches out to those in need by providing regular donations of food, toiletries and clothing to a Roman Catholic brotherhood which runs a hostel for homeless men on the streets of Paris. In addition to our weekly donations we provide wrapped Christmas gifts and Christmas treats for the men in the care of the Missionnaires de la Charité.

  • Rome, Italy

St Andrew's Church ministers to Christians from many different traditions and lands, right in the heart of Rome. Established in 1862 as a clandestine congregation, it now enjoys rich ecumenical fellowship as part of Churches Together in Rome and as a member of the Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy. Our worship is inclusive and thoughtful, integrating time for children.

Faith in action includes support for the homeless who congregate at Termini station. We work together with a Roman Catholic parish to hand out food and drink, as well as donating basic necessities for distribution. We support Mediterranean Hope in its work on behalf of exploited migrants in Calabria, its welcome for those arriving by boat on Lampedusa and its pioneering humanitarian corridors from the Middle East and Africa to Europe.

Fellowship is important to us and our rooftop terrace is in demand throughout the year for Sunday refreshments, lunches and other events. We look forward to seeing you!
